I started life on this planet in Montreal, living there until I was 10, when my family moved to Guatemala City in Guatemala. We lived there
for two years, then the earthquake hit us, killing about 25,000 people and convincing us to get the F**K outta there real quick.
We moved back to Canada, settling in Toronto for a couple of years, then my Dad's company decided to send us to the other side of the
earth; Australia.
We lived in the city of Melbourne, which is located in the south-eastern part of the country, in Victoria. It was here that I got interested in
music, listening to whatever was on the radio and buying records by Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Kiss, Motorhead, Devo, The Police,
Sex Pistols, Deep Purple, Rush and AC/DC.
At this point I started to lose interest in playing Hockey and got more into learning an instrument, bass guitar. I bought one for $180.00 at
a local shop-it was a Vantage 4-string. I was in awe of the instrument's power and potential. In the mid-eighties I divided my time
between Melbourne and Toronto, going to metal/hardcore shows in both cities. It was also around this time that I took a few lessons
and started jammin' with other people to improve my playing before joining a serious band.
Around '87 I hooked up with drummer Kevin Harris vocalist Fabien Madeleine and guitarist Aldo Abitrante to form Coven-Lore, which
was thrash/speed metal. We recorded a poor quality tape of originals before splitting up. After that I did time with some hardcore bands
in the local T.O. scene, can't remember any names of them except for one; Stick It, which was hilarious. In '89 I joined Aftermath, with
Aldo and vocalist Ger Schrienert, Dave on guitar and Jeff on drums. We played the club circuit doing Slayer, Anthrax, Flotsam & Jetsam,
Metallica, Sabbath, Nuclear Assault, Exodus, and Testament covers as well as originals.
In 1990, Canada's fastest (!?) Death metal, Assailant was formed, with ex-Savage Steel members Marshall Birch on guitar, Brian Vella
on drums, Al Schmitz on vocals and myself. This lasted two years, before the lack of gigs broke us up. (We still did some cool shows!)
In April 1992 I met up with the band Disaster Area [who then became Battery] in Cleveland, OH. I joined the band that night and I haven't
slept since!
